Nigeria’s Super Eagles are leaving no room for complacency as they prepare to face Lesotho in Friday’s 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifier at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane, South Africa.
Head coach Eric Chelle and vice-captain William Troost-Ekong addressed the media on Thursday, exuding confidence and focus ahead of the crucial encounter.
Chelle emphasized the importance of mental and tactical discipline, noting that the World Cup race remains wide open.
“Everybody can go to the World Cup. Anything can happen during a game, weather, referee decisions, or injuries. We just need to stay focused, 100% on this game tomorrow against Lesotho, a great team with intensity and aggression. We must score and win,” the Franco-Malian tactician said.
Troost-Ekong, who played a key role in Nigeria’s recent friendly against South Africa, echoed his coach’s sentiments, highlighting the team’s professional mindset.
“We’re approaching this like the South Africa game. It’s important to get three points. We respect Lesotho. They’ve done well but our focus is on preparation and execution. We’re looking forward to tomorrow,” the PAOK defender noted.
With new faces like Akor Adams eager to make their mark and a full-strength squad ready for action, all eyes will be on the Super Eagles on Friday when they look to earn maximum points in their hopes of qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup which is scheduled to take place in America.
