Nigeria International Midfielder Mikel Agu has promised Shonan Bellmare fans that he would give his best to the club, reports Owosports.com.ng.
Agu completed his move to the J-League side on a two-year deal after becoming a free agent in June.
He said in a short video posted on the club’s official Twitter handle.
“Hello supporters, my name is Mikel Agu. I am happy to be here in Shonan Bellmare, I love it and I am hoping very soon to see you guys at the Stadium.
“I am here to give my best and I hope that at the end of the season we are going to be happy. Halleh!.”
The Super Eagles midfielder began his career with Porto Youth teams in 2010, but after nine years with the team, including loan stints at Club Brugge, Vitoria Setubal, and Bursaspor, he made the permanent switch to Vitoria Guimaraes.
The combative Midfielder who later left Vitoria Guimaraes after spending the majority of his career in Portugal signed for Spanish Segunda division side Fuenlabrada in 2022 and is set to put on the number 46 jersey at his new club.
The player, who was born in Benin, made his Super Eagles debut in a 2017 3-0 friendly victory over Togo. He was also a member of the preliminary 30-man World Cup team for Russia 2018, although he was left out of the final 23.
Agu’s stint in Europe was over when J1 League team Shonan Bellmare announced that they have acquired his services till January 2024.
The Club Brugge loanee who has seven caps for the Super Eagles will become the first Nigerian ever to play in the colours of Shonan Bellmare.
Agu is attempting to keep his team afloat on the log with six games remaining for Shonan Bellmare, which is currently sitting in 14th place and two points from the bottom of the J1 League. They will host Urawa Reds in a league game on Saturday,
