Nigerian midfielder Halimatu Ayinde has agreed to a three-year deal with Norwegian side FF Rosengård after leaving Eskilstuna United.
The 27-year-old who began her career with Delta Queens before moving to the United States to play for Western New York Flash joined the 2021 Damallsvenskan League champions after suffering a knee injury that sidelined her for nearly a year.
After recovering from the injury two months ago, Halimatu Ayinde expressed her eagerness for the challenge in Norway after committing to FC Rosengard till 2025.
“FC Rosengård is a top club and I am looking forward to having the opportunity to represent it, ” says Ayinde.
The Kaduna-born player was part of the Super Falcons at the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup and the winning squad at the 2014 African Women’s Championship.
Speaking on her move, Sports manager Therese Sjögran said the team is very delighted with the acquisition of the Super Falcons midfielder.
“We are very pleased to be able to make this reinforcement before the window closes. Halimatu is a powerful midfielder with great work capacity. She will be very useful this autumn with our tight match schedule.”
Halimatu Ayinde joins the team next week and will play wearing the No. 4 jersey.
The former Delta Queens player hopes to earn a spot in the Super Falcons squad for the World Cup in Australia and New Zealand next year after Nigeria qualified for the FIFA tournament after placing fourth at the Africa Women Championships (AWCON) earlier this year. The player has represented Nigeria in both the 2015 and 2019 World Cups.
