Nigeria U-17 Women’s team will play host to Columbia in the semi-final at the ongoing FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in India on Wednesday 26th October.
Recall, that the Flamingos created history on Friday when they defeated the Americans 4-3 on penalties after playing 1-1 in the regulation time in the quarterfinal to become the first African team to advance to the last eight.
The Flamingos, who have had a respectable run in India thus far, started their campaign with a 2-1 loss to another semifinalist Germany in Group B before defeating New Zealand 4-0 and finishing the group with a 2-1 win against Chile, securing a quarterfinal position.
The Coffee Growers of Columbia, another historical figure, advanced through the group stages for the first time after failing to advance past the first round in any of their previous four appearances on the international stage.
Colombia also lost 1-0 to Spain to start their World Cup campaign before coming back to upset China 2-0 and Mexico 2-1 to take first place in group C.
In Wednesday’s semi-final of the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup, both teams will be looking to further expand the record they have already set.
