Ibrahim Musa Gusau, the newly elected president of the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, is confident that the Nigeria’s under-17 women’s team will be motivated to defeat their American opponents when they play each other in the quarterfinal of the ongoing FIFA Under-17 Women’s World Cup in India.

The girls will give it their all to get the result that will earn them a semi-final ticket, according to Ibrahim Musa Gusau, a former Zamfara state FA chairman.

He also said that the spirit is high in their Goa camp and that they can win the trophy if everything goes according to plan.

“They [the Flamingos] are very well motivated and working very hard to make the country proud by winning the cup. We are mobilizing Nigerians in India with the help of the Nigerian Embassy to ensure that the girls feel at home. The target of the girls is to be the first African team to win the women’s World Cup.

“I have been speaking with the coach and officials of the team and I have charged them not to be wasteful with the scoring chances they create like during their group games. Now they have promised to take their chances and beat the USA to advance, ” Gusau stated.

The Flamingos will travel to Mumbai to play the United States of America on Friday as they hope to make history by becoming the first African side to make it to the last four.

The match against USA which will be the very first meeting of both countries at the women’s U-17 level in a world cup will take place at the DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai, India at 12pm on Friday Nigerian time.
