The University of Ilorin football team will continue their quest for glory in the fourth edition of the Higher Institution Football League (HiFL) when they face their counterparts from Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU) on Thursday.
Scheduled to hold at the Federal University of Technology Minna Bosso Campus, this year’s quarter-final match is going to be a one-leg affair in a neutral ground as against the previous editions of home and away format.
Speaking to the Players after touching down the Niger State Capital on Wednesday, Coach Baba Isiaka Gambari commended his lads for their commitment and sought for total concentration ahead of the game.
“Tomorrow’s game is very important for us as a team. I want to urge you to please replicate the performance you put in the round of 16 where you defeated our opponent 1-0 away from home also came back from two goals down to get a draw in the second leg”. The Tactician noted.
He further urged the players to remain focused and sustain their positive attitude as they set their eyes on the Gold, adding that the HiFL title is the only trophy still missing in the cabinet of the institution.
“The match has a lot to deal with our lives such that a win for us tomorrow will save us the stress of playing in the next edition’s preliminaries and it will also gets us closer to clinching Gold”.
Gambari lauded the management of the institution for their support and urged them to continue to rally round the team in the bid to win the ultimate prize.
Recall that the team clinched the quarter final ticket after defeating the inaugural champions of the league, University of Agriculture, Makurdi in the round of 16.
The Nigerian University Games Association (NUGA) football event gold winners are keen to beat their bronze medal record achievement in the HiFL which they recorded in the 2019 edition.
It would also be recalled that Unilorin Warriors defeated ATBU boys 1-0 in the quarter-final of the NUGA which held in Lagos.
Unilorin Warriors are also reputed for winning the Jamb University football games in 2019.
The quarter final match will hold on Thursday at Bosso Campus of Federal University of Technology Minna at 4pm
