Unpaid Salaries: Heartland Players Leave For Enugu Dejected

The battleline looks to have been drawn as players of Heartland FC of Owerri could play dirty this weekend with the Club Board and Management over the none payment of their backlog salaries, the ones for January,  February and outstanding match bonuses.

An inside source (name withheld) in Heartland’s camp informed that the same ugly incident occurred last week before the team’s trip to Akure, where they snatched a point off Sunshine Stars, as the home team came from behind to draw the Naze Millionaires 1-1.

“The mood in camp on a daily basis is that of dejection as the players are really suffering. They can’t even afford three squeal meals, get good medical care as some are looking like Kwashiorkor, let alone cater for their family needs back home despite them been bread winners.

“I wonder how the Heartland Board and Management expect toe players and coaches to survive as they have not received two months salaries and winning bonuses of matches they have won so far.

“It would interest to know that Heartland could have been the first club to boycott an NPFL, following the humane treatment on the team by it’s management. The team held Its employer’s to ransome last weekend as they refused to travel to Akure unless part of their winning bonuses and salaries were paid.

“The team which later traveled tI Enugu by noon (Saturday),  left Owerri sad and feeling like orphans, as the Heartland Board and Management were not compassionate with them.

” What the team is asking for is not too much and is their right as every employee deserves his or her pay. Or is it when players and coaches start dying before the Board and Management become sensitive to the team’s plight.”

The Naze Millionaires who have gone five matches unbeaten since the victory against MFM FC of Lagos at the Agege Stadium will be guests to Rangers in an Oriental Derby game on Sunday at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium.
