Prince Shola Adekunle, Chairman of Yellow Dot Squash Club, has commended the organizers of the Ex-Pro squash tournament and the Kwara State government for their remarkable efforts in promoting the game of squash amongst the youth.
Adekunle, who was visibly impressed by the state-of-the-art squash facilities at the Kwara State Stadium Complex, praised the government’s investment in the sport. “I counted six different courts here, including normal courts, double courts, and a training court, making a total of eight. And I was introduced to two more outside, which means there are ten courts here. This is unique, not just in Nigeria, but possibly across Africa.” He said while speaking with journalists.
He also acknowledged the efforts of the Kwara State Sports Commission Chairman, Coach Bola Mogaji, and the State government in creating a conducive environment for the game to thrive. “This is a very good one. I must commend the State government and my Chairman for their dedication to promoting squash.”
Adekunle emphasized the importance of nurturing young talents in squash, citing the tournament’s focus on U11, U13, and U17 players. “If the young ones are not allowed to learn and move on, the game will die. But with this initiative, continuity is ensured.”
He also praised the President of the Squash Federation, Boye, for his efforts in promoting the game over the past two years. “It’s just incredible.”
Adekunle advised other State Governments to emulate Kwara State’s example and invest in promoting squash across the country. “Come to Kwara State and see the good work they are doing here. Let’s promote the game of squash all over Nigeria.” He opined.
