The Nigeria Amputee Football team also known as Special Eagles has touched down in Tanzania for the Cup of Africa Nations of Amputee Football(CANAF) 2021, www.owosports.com.ng can reports.
The 16-man contingent departed through Qatar Airline at the Muritala Muhammed Airport in Lagos earlier on Saturday at 8:30am Nigerian time.
The team, which earlier had a stop over in Doha before heading to their final destination touched down Julius Nyerere International Airport In Tanzania at exactly 11pm Nigerian time
It was gathered that a total number of 12 players and 4 officials (coach, federation president, secretary and Technical Director were on the first batch of the trip while the Assistant coach and goalkeeper trainer will join them on Monday.
CANAF 2021, which is holding from 27th of November to December 5th is a biennial tournament organised by the (FAAF) to determine Africa’s best team and also serves as qualifiers for the Amputee World Cup usually organised by World Amputee Football Federation (WAFF) .
The Nigeria National Amputee Football team have been drawn alongside Egypt and Ghana in the group D are expected to play their first game against Egypt on Monday.
Earlier on Saturday, Tanzania defeated Morroco 2-1 in the opening match of the tournament.
Nigeria settled for Silver at the 2019 CANAF after a 2-0 loss to host and world champions Angola in the final.
Liberia have won three editions of the tournament while Ghana won the inaugural edition hosted in 2007 in Sierra Leone .
