Super Falcons striker Asisat Oshoala has hailed her teammates spirited performance in their 3-2 victory over the Matildas of Australia in their second Group B fixture at the ongoing FIFA Women’s Worldcup co-hosted by Australia and New Zealand.
The match played at the 52, 500 capacity Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane Australia on Thursday saw the Super Falcons rallied back from a goal down to beat their host 3-2.
The Matildas had taken the lead late in the first half through Van Egmood but the Falcons rallied back thanks to goals from Uchenna Kanu, Osinachi Ohale and Barcelona forward Asisat Oshoala.
Reacting to the victory the reigning African Women Footballer of the year hailed her teammates for their performance however stating that there are a lot of potential is the team.
“I will give kudos to my teammates, everyone went out there to play their heart out no one knows what this team is made off we only have to come to the field and show ourselves and the kind of heart we have this team has a lot to offer and everyone and the world has seen that today.
On starting from the bench she said, “Sometimes you’ve got to make team decision and to be honest I wasn’t feeling to well but I am not a self person and that’s why we are 23 players for the Worldcup if someone one is not 100 percent fit then other people would step up and you can see they all stepped up on the pitch today so it doesn’t matter for me where I am starting from the most important is the team results” she stated.
“Each tournament I go I want to always make sure I give everything, fight for my teammates and fight for this badge because this is the best country in the world. Naija for Life”. She concluded.
Nigeria will on Monday 31st July 2023 take on Republic Of Ireland in their final Group B fixture at Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane Australia.
The Irish ladies have already been eliminated from the competition following two defeats from two games.
