Senior Advocate Of Nigeria (SAN), Abdulhakeem Usman Mustapha a former President of CAF Appeal Committee has called for a major reform of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) to foster the development of football in the country.
The Legal practitioner made this assertion during the inspection of the mainbow of the Kwara State Stadium Complex on Saturday ahead Kwara United first home match of the season which they won.
“My message to those who are organizing the league is for them to know that our league requires surgical operation if we want our football to grow and have a national team that would bring in laurels”, he said in a chat with Newsmen.
Mustapha who singlehandedly funded the re-grassing of the mainbow of the Kwara State Stadium Complex added that the league has to be properly run to garner the needed development and growth in our football, adding that the state of the league will determine the future of football in the country.
“The league is not well run. People don’t go to the Stadium again, security issues, officiating, or organization. We are sitting on a Gold mine and unless we do the right thing, we cannot continue to do the same thing and expect a different result.
“Our league needs a revolution and we need to rejig it. we need to keep requesting for an answer. If we develop our league we can have the next Messi and Okocha around us but we need the enablement. One of the thing we need to do is for us to have a league that is properly rún where matches would be won by playing very well and not because you know someone who knows someone” he stated
