The Egyptian Football Association (EFA) are reportedly set to announce former striker Hossam Hassan as the new national team head coach, Owosports.com.ng gathered.
Rui Vitoria was sacked by the EFA just hours ago following Egypt’s disastrous campaign at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
The Pharaohs failed to win a single game throughout the tournament and were eliminated in the round of 16 after losing a penalty shootout to DR Congo, which led to Vitoria’s dismissal.
Despite rumours of former Ivory Coast and Saudi Arabia boss Herve Renard potentially taking charge of Egypt, it seems the EFA has other ideas.
Ex-Smouha and Al Masry manager Hossam Hassan emerged as the leading candidate for the vacant role according to multiple reports.
Hassan would become the third coach appointed by the EFA in the last two years after Ehab Galal replaced Carlos Queiroz before Rui Vitoria arrived three months later.
The legendary striker during his playing days won three AFCON titles with Egypt as host 1986, 1998 in Burkina Faso and 2006 when they hosted again.
