Rivers United goalkeeper Theophilus Afelokhai believes the rumored suspension by Rivers United played a vital role in him missing out on the opportunity of getting a National team invite, Owosports.com.ng reports.
Recall that after Rivers United disappointing 3-0 lost to Akwa United in the matchday 13th fixtures of the Nigerian professional football league (NPFL) in Uyo, the former Enyimba duo of Theophilus Afeokhia and Ifeanyi Anemena were rumored to have been suspended following their error which led to conceeding the second goal.
The Goalkeeper in a chat with brila.net said the suspension played a huge role in him missing out on the Super Eagles invites as he believes was doing well and could have be called up.
“I was to be called in to the national team when a lot of noise was going about in the new media about suspension”,
“I believed that time I was doing well, and it was my time to be called in but when the information came that I was suspended – the team handlers have to move on.
“I was not happy for what transpired then, but today I have forgiven whoever started the rumors, I have to move on with my career because I don’t believe that anyone can stop me from moving forward.” Afeokhia affirms.
Theophilus Afeokhia alongside defender Ifeanyi Anemena joined the Pride of Rivers from Enyimba just before the commencement of the 2020/2021 Nigeria football season.
