… Confident Of Retaining The Title
Super Eagles and Rivers United left back Ebube Duru has expressed his disappointment following their 2-2 draw with Remo Stars in the ongoing Nigeria premier league (NPL) super six but expressed optimism of retaining the title won last year.
It was a dramatic end of the second matchday two of game of the championship playoff at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena Lagos which saw both Remo Stars and Rivers United scoring late goals in the space of two minutes as they settled for a 2-2 draw.
“Today’s game was a very hot one it was not an easy game”, Duru said to owosports.com.ng.
“I would say I feel disappointed because the first half we had the game we played better than them and we where leading. Coming into the second half I think we sat too deep.
“Normally when you are leading the pressure always come to you but I think we should have wrapped up the game in the first half by scoring more goals but we came under pressure even the whole stadium was supporting Remo Stars the fans behind our post in the second half where even causing more problems for us because they were shouting and putting pressure on us. But all the same at the end of the game I was satisfied with the results because we are still on course in the race”.
When asked if they’re in under pressure as they try to defend the title won last year, He said; “Yeah I would say we are under pressure because the last time a team won it back to back was Enyimba and Kano Pillars and it has been a long time and you know it not easy to defend a title in Nigeria because every team will prepare hard to defeat you and talking of how we won the league last season with a record which have not been set before so there is a lot of pressure on us and most of the pressure is retaining the title because we know what the Governor of Rivers State has promised to reward the team with so that why we are doing everything to give our best in every game and I know definitely that we are on course, we have three games to and we would take every game step by step as they come.”
The former Lobi Stars defender said they will come all out to try and secure the maximum points when they file out against Lobi Stars of Markudi to keep put themselves on course for the title.
“The next game we are coming all out because every game you have too come out to win and the next three games we want to ensure that we come out to win and get the maximum three points because it would put us on the right track and we are also playing another difficult opponent in Lobi Stars.
“Every team that came to this super six are not push over and it will be a very difficult one for us but we have to come out with the right element and make sure we get the maximum points.” He opined.
Ebube Duru has so far notch up five goals and two assist this season making him the highest goal scoring defender in the league.
