Kwara United General Manager Reveal How Injury Cut His Football Career Short

Kwara United General Manager Bashir Badawir has opened up about how injury cut-short his burgeoning football career at an early age in the late 90’s.

The former Beladiyya Mehalla of Egypt star revealed how he started football as a kid in Kaduna and how a consistent back injury ensured he never reached his potentials as a footballer.

Many players have had their footballing careers cut short due to injuries and quite a few are lucky to recover from various career threatening injuries, but the Kwara United General Manager wasn’t that lucky.

Bashir who is now a top football administrator in Nigeria told Family United by Football (FUBF), a popular sports platform how he conquered his fears and became better after football.

“I started football early as a kid in Kaduna and played grassroot football with YSFON, ” Bashir told FUBF.

“I moved away from Kaduna in 1997 after being spotted by Eagle Cement FC when they came to Kaduna to play their continental games. We had the privilege to play a friendly game with them and moved to Port Harcourt afterwards.

“I moved to the ‘Oil rich’ state to join my good friend Albert Chinwo and and from there moved to join Gafar Mohammed in Benin, then at Bendel Insurance.

“I trained with Insurance for sometime before travelling down to Lagos to join Flaming Flamingos, where I was spotted and signed for Beladiyya Mehalla in Egypt.

He continued: “I don’t pray injury should cut short the career of any player, but unfortunately for me, a back injury I had managed during my time in Nigeria came up again in Egypt, probably because of the cold weather.

“After then I couldn’t continue and had to stop football, thinking of what to do next, I called my Manager and told him I would love to work with him and we started woth former Flying Eagles defender, John Aranka who was the first player I took to Egypt (Zamalek) from Nigeria.

“In all, I want to thank God for all he has done in my life, with hardwork and dedication , I have been able to achieve a lot,” he concluded.

The result oriented Bash, became an football administrator in 2003, when he joined Kwara United as a consultant to the Harmony Warriors after injury forced him to retire early with the Egyptian side.

He worked with defunct Sharks FC as coordinator, he left Sharks for defunct Dolphins FC and worked as coordinator, he left Dolphins and joined Nasarawa United as Coordinator, from where he staged a return to Port Harcourt for a second stint with Rivers United and later joined Kwara United as the General Coordinator.
