Captain of Nigeria’s Super Eagles Ahmed Musa has charged Africa team who would be representing the continent of African at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar to make history by going all the way and, if possible take home the title to Africa.
Speaking following a courtesy call to Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau, the newly elected President of the Nigerian Football Federation, in Abuja, the 30-year-old forward reaffirmed his conviction that an African country might take home the trophy while stating that he had no favorites after Nigeria had earlier crashed out.
“I don’t have any favorite country to win the 2022 World Cup, but I will be very happy if an African nation goes all the way to win it. I would also not predict which country will win the World Cup so long as it is an African team.
“If Nigeria had qualified for the World Cup, we would also be contesting for the title. Since we are not there, I have adopted the five African representatives as my team and I would be praying and rooting for them to make the black continent proud.
“My message to the five African countries is to go to Qatar and be fearless. They should go there believing they can win the World Cup like every other country. They should go and create history for themselves and their countries, ” Musa said while having a chat with Gusua.
Ahmed Musa, who holds the record for the most capped Nigerian Super Eagles player, explained that his trip to the NFF was to welcome the organization’s newly elected president and map out the future of Nigerian football.
Africa will be represented at the forthcoming FIFA World Cup by Senegal, Ghana, Morocco, Cameroon, and Tunisia in Qatar later this month.
The only African nations to advance to the quarterfinals of a FIFA World Cup were Cameroon (at Italia ’90), Senegal (at Korea/Japan 2002), and Ghana (at South Africa 2010).
