The Nigerian Honorable Minister for Youths and Sports Mr Sunday Dare has approved the release of funds to refund the IAAF owosports.com reports.

The minister made the disclosure via his twitter handle.

“I have approved the release of funds to refund the IAAF overpayment wrongly credited to the Athletics Federation of Nigeria. In a few days from now the funds should hit the account of the IAAF baring any interbank delays. With this Nigeria’s reputation is regained.

“IAAF refund approval is for the outstanding balance of $65,000-(Sixty Five Thousand US dollars). The first trench of the refund was made by the former Minister. I have only completed the refund because it is the right thing to do.

The IAAF had reportedly overpaid Nigeria in its annual payment to member federations. The world governing body for athletics paid the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) the sum of $150,000 instead of the statutory $20,000 it pays to member federations.

The AFN failed to return the excesses, and former Minister of Sports, Solomon Dalung failed to approve the reimbursement of the IAAF, despite promising the body’s President, Sebastian Coe in August 2018 in Asaba.
