Kwara United football club ended their winless run in the Nigeria premier football league (NPFL) as they came from behind to beat Plateau United 2-1 in their matchday 15 encounter on Thursday in Ilorin.
It was a highly intense match and a must win for Coach Kabiru Dogo who was overseeing the first of his three match ultimatums being handed by the management of the club.
Albert Hilary scored a 35 yards free kick to silence the home crowd early in the 20th minute. The away team kept their composure and threatened and were close to doubling their lead in the second half when Albert Hilary’s second half free kick was met by the woodwork.
Kwara United pushed and would get their equaliser in the 72nd minutes as captain Kabiru Balogun drove in a 25 yards free to kick start the revival. Substitute Yusuf Sodeeq scored the late winner to send the crowd to wild celebration.
Thankgod Ikeagwu speaking to OWOSPORTS.COM.NG after the game expressed his excitement. He said it was a result they needed to revive the trust of the fans.
“It was a difficult game for us, the fact that they scored first made it so difficult. We had to fight hard to come from behind to win
Looking back to our last game the fans weren’t happy with us they weren’t happy with our performance and a lot of things going on so the coach told us to go all out to play better football and make ourselves proud and that was what we did and at the end we got the victory you can see everybody is excited the State, the fans and this could only be God” He said.
He further added that the victory was a moral booster and would motivate them in their next game and also help their push towards achieving their set targets this season.
“This is a moral booster for us it will motivate us going into the next game against Kano Pillars I believe with the momentum and the spirit right now we would get a point in Kano. We have a positive mindset of going back to the continent and also contending for the league because it is still open, we just have to keep on with the winning momentum” He concluded.
