Kwara United’s defender Isiah Ejeh said the team were motivated to play for coach Kabiru Dogo after they feared the gaffer would resign if they had not won against Plateau United on Thursday.
The hierarchy of the club had handed the former Sunshine Stars, Nasarawa United and Wikki Tourist coach a three match ultimatum prior to their Nigeria premier football league matchday 15 clash against the Peace Boys. Kwara United came from behind to win the encounter 2-1 thanks to goals from Albert Hilary for Plateau United, Kabiru Balogun and Sodeeq Yusuf for the Harmony Boys.
The former Mjällby AIF of Sweden defender while speaking with OWOSPORTS.com.ng, explained how difficult the game was knowing that they needed to win to make coach Dogo happy and keep him on the job.
“I want to thank God for the victory, it was important for us to win the game because if we didn’t win we would have dropped to 17 or 18 positions but we are grateful to God to have achieved the success.
It was very difficult because Plateau came with a plan and after they got their goal they sat back and it was difficult for us to break them down”, He said.
On what motivated them coming into the second half of the game where they turned it around, he said;
“Our coach was very angry with us because our last match we didn’t win so he told us that if we didn’t win he was going to re-sign so we played for him to make him happy.
The victory means a lot to us and we will try to push for a win against Kano Pillars” He stated.
The Harmony Boys have an uphill task ahead when they take on Kano Pillars in their matchday 16 encounter at the Sani Abacha Stadium on Thursday, 28 December 2023.
