Inter’s Andre Onana will take no further part in Cameroon’s World Cup due to disagreements with his coach Rigobert Song, according to reports.
The 26-year-old goalkeeper was not included in Cameroon’s squad for their second World Cup group game against Serbia after being dropped entirely in favour of backup option Devis Epassy.
Onana who started the Lions 1-0 defeat in the opener against Switzerland has been in fine form this season for Inter and looked set to play an important role for Cameroon at this World Cup.
However, according to report, Onana was dropped from the Cameroon squad due to technical disagreements with coach Rigobert Song, who did not appreciate the Inter goalkeeper’s ‘audacious’ approach in their World Cup opener against Switzerland.
The 26-year-old was often seen outside his penalty area in the match, often heading out as far as the midfield in order to help with build up play.
Onana was asked to ‘play simpler’ and not complicate things for Cameroon, causing a quarrel in training between player and coach.
Song is believed to want a more traditional goalie between the sticks but Onana, 26, is very capable of playing out from the back and refused to change his style.
Samuel Eto’o, the president of the Cameroon Football Federation, attempted to intervene to resolve things but was unable to mend the rift in time for the game with Serbia.
Cameroon came from two goals down to force a draw 3-3 against Serbia in their second group game they now face South America giant Brazil in the final group game.
