SGFC Athletics have qualified for the playoffs of the ongoing 2022/2023 Nationwide League One (Division One) season following their 2-1 victory over Laycon FC in the final group C2B fixture.
Samuel Bamigboye netted a brace to take his goal tally to four to secure maximum points for the Eagles against the Offa based club in the final group game played inside the main-bow of the Unilorin sports complex in Ilorin, Kwara State.
The former ABS Ilorin striker opened scores in the seventh minutes, Laycon then drew level in the 36th minutes through Mashood. Samuel then profited from defensive error from Laycon to complete his brace on the 66th minutes as he restored the lead for his side as SGFC Athletics held on to secure the win and finish the with an unbeaten record.
SGFC Athletics finished as winners of group C2B Ilorin center with Eleven points from five games. They recorded three wins and two draws
They will now play the winner from Group C2A which will determine who goes through to the final playoffs round.
Reacting to the victory was the head coach Mashood Yakub who expressed his satisfaction with his team performance however stressing that the work continues with the target set on picking the promotion ticket to the NNL.
“I am excited with the victory, I want to specially appreciate our President Mr. Richard Opanuga, and the management for their total support.
“I will also give kudos to the players they gave their best and worked hard for this.”
