President of SGFC Athletics Sports Club, Mr. Richard Opanuga, is over the moon following his team’s triumph at the just-concluded Jagaban Cup.
SGFC Athletics emerged as champions of the 2025 Jagaban Cup after edging out hosts 36 Lion 5-4 in a penalty shootout, following a goalless draw.
The team took Lagos by storm with an outstanding performance, remaining undefeated throughout the competition. Their impressive display earned them the top spot and ultimately, the championship title.
“It is time for SGFC Athletics to unleash their potentials,” an elated Mr. Opanuga exclaimed. “I am shocked by this victory; we only came to compete and market our players, but the lads took me by surprise with their performance, and I am super excited.”
Mr. Opanuga also took the opportunity to commend the organizers of the tournament. “I want to commend the organizers, my friend Hajji Gafar Liameed, for the wonderful organization and for providing an opportunity for these talents to showcase themselves.”
While celebrating their victory, Mr. Opanuga acknowledged that SGFC Athletics still has a lot of work to do.
“SGFC Athletics won’t be flattered by this victory. We still have a lot of work to do, but this victory is a sign of encouragement that we are doing something great. We’ll go back and continue our preparation ahead of the 2025 NLO league season.”
