Remo Stars Coach, Daniel Ogumodede, has hailed the invitation of his team’s right-back, Sodiq Ismail, to the Super Eagles for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against South Africa and Benin Republic in June. Ogumodede, who has been instrumental in Sodiq’s development, believes the national team has “got a treasure” in the young player.
Speaking in an interview, Ogunmodede expressed his pride and joy at Sodiq’s achievement, attributing it to the player’s hard work, discipline, and perseverance. “I brought Sodiq from JSS1 in Ogbomoso, and here we are today. He was one of five players, but he’s the only one left. His dedication and perseverance have paid off, and I’m happy for him and the club.”
Ogumodede, who has been a father figure to Sodiq, praised the player’s quality, saying, “You could see what he did today. He’s a treasure, and I’m not surprised he’s been called up to the national team.” The coach believes Sodiq’s invitation is a testament to the club’s investment in youth development and its commitment to nurturing talented players.
Coach Ogumodede also expressed his support for Finidi George as the new head coach of the Super Eagles. Finidi, a former Nigerian international and member of the League Club Managers, takes the reins of the senior national team, and Ogumodede believes this is a testament to the growth and development of indigenous coaches in the country.
“Finidi is part of us, and we are proud to see one of our own at the helm of the Super Eagles,” Ogumodede said in a statement. “This appointment shows that we are growing as coaches and making progress in our profession. We are all behind Finidi, and we believe in his ability to succeed.”
Ogumodede emphasized the collective responsibility of indigenous coaches in Finidi’s success, saying, “If he fails, we fail; if he wins, we win. That’s the spirit among us, and we are totally behind him.” He described Finidi as “our project” and expressed confidence in his ability to excel in his new role.
