Technical advicer of Bayelsa United Football club Tiebowei Diepreye has commended the Interim Management Committee (IMC) for a wonderful organization of the just concluded Nigeria Premier League (NPL) 2022/2023 Season, Owosports.com.ng reports.
The gaffer says he feels elated with the organization of league and the quality of football which shows that our premier league is getting better.
“The organization to some considerable extent I would say it is very okay”, He said to www.owosports.com.ng.
“The abreach format was the only way we can meet up with the FIFA calendar so I think it’s a good one. There are always pros and cons, for some teams who started the league very well and ended the Super Six not too impressive saying fatigue of playing two matches in three days its not an excuse because every team went through it and at the end of the day Enyimba won”.
“The game today was keenly contested between both teams which is good it shows that we are getting better, the premier league is getting better and I believe that by next season when we go back to the full season structure we should expect to see something better but what the IMC have done with this format is very commendable”, He added.
On Bayelsa United performance this season the gaffer stated that there were lots of issues which led to the teams poor performance in the first round but was greatful the right steps was taken in the second stanza that helped the team avoid the drop.
“Bayelsa United we have lots of issues starting the league we had issues that were demotivational and it affected the performance of the team and besides that we also had a considerable new team with some of my players injured all these affected the team but when we started the second round all hands where on deck and you can see the wonderful performance in the second round in the first round we got just eight points three points was deducted it looked like we were going to be relegated but the second round we started on a very good note went five matches unbeaten at the end we gathered nineteen (19) points in the second round to escape the drop we’ve learnt our lessons and we are going to start stronger and better next season.
“It definitely going be a different ball game come next season because some players will leave and new player will come in like I have told them already this season I want us to start preparation much earlier so to avoid what happened last year in the first round”, He concluded.
