Nigerian hurdler Tobi Amusan has been cleared of a doping violation by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), Owosports.com.ng reports.
CAS dismissed appeals by World Athletics (WA) and the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) that sought to impose a two-year ban on Amusan for alleged whereabouts failures.
In a decision announced on June 28, 2024, the CAS Panel upheld the ruling of the World Athletics Disciplinary Tribunal (WADT) that Amusan did not commit an anti-doping rule violation.
The WADT had previously found that Amusan did not violate Rule 2.4 of the WA Anti-Doping Rules (WA ADR) and imposed no period of ineligibility.
The CAS Panel acknowledged that Amusan committed two filing failures but did not confirm a missed test, which would have been the third whereabouts failure. The decision confirms Amusan’s eligibility to compete, and she is free to continue her athletic career without any sanctions.
Tobi Amusan has had a stellar career on the track, with numerous accolades to her name. She is a two-time African Champion, three-time Commonwealth Games medalist, and holds the African record in the 100m hurdles with a time of 12.41 seconds.
She also won the gold medal at the 2022 World Athletics Championships in Eugene, Oregon, becoming the first Nigerian to achieve this feat.
With this clearance, she can now focus on her upcoming competitions, including the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
