Nigeria’s U-17 women’s national team, the Flamingos, have reached the Semi final of the FIFA U17 women’s world cup after they beat USA in the quarter-finals of the ongoing India 2022 World Cup.

The Flamingos defeated USA 4-3 on Penalties to advance to the semifinals and will take on the winner of the other quarterfinal between Tanzania and Columbia.

This is the first time the team would be reaching the last four in the competition.

The Flamingos drew first blood in the 27th minutes when Omamuzo Edafe converted a penalty following a foul on Amina Bello in the box.

A deflected effort by Amelia Villarreal leveled up for the Americans as both sides went to the halftime break all tied at 1-1.

The Americans came in to the second half looking more organized and dominating the game in the most of the half but the Flamingos were equal to the threat pose by the Americans with Fath Omilana making a number of crucial saves to keep the Flamingos in the mix.

Defender Comfort Folorunsho missed the only spot kick for the Flamingos as Omamuzo Edafe scored the fifth to seal the victory.

The semifinal is scheduled for the Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Margao on Wednesday, October 26, 2022.
